It's a BOY!

We found out on August 6th at our 2:30 appointment with our sonographer, Judy, that you are a boy! Your dad never changed his vote from the beginning, but I really thought you were a girl due to symptoms I was having and your heart rate being on the higher side. Your grandma, grandpa, and great grandpa Heaton guessed you were a girl also! When I tallied the votes for boy versus girl, girl was only ahead by two votes though! We're so excited to finally find out more about you and to know you are a boy, and we are excited to meet you in a few months!! Here is a picture of us right after the sonogram!

Here are some pictures from our 18 week sonogram:

You had the hiccups when we first saw you which was fun to see! Your heart rate was about 153 bpm and we got to see your cute face! Your belly and femur are measuring the biggest for your age which is good because you must have all of your organs and you might pass us up in height. Your femur is in the 87th percentile for length! You were 8 1/2 inches long and weighed 10 oz. at this appointment according to our sonographer.

Things I don't want to forget:

• My belly button finally started to look smaller than normal when I looked in the mirror on the night of July 31st. We had just come back from a surprise party for our friend Jeff from church. I guess you had finally gotten big enough to stretch my stomach that much!
  
• I first felt you move (it felt like little bubbles) at our community group at Jeff and Taylor's house on August 3rd. Your dad got to feel them too!
• Before we found out what you were, at the beginning of my pregnancy, I had a dream about a baby boy floating in a basket in a river towards me. Also, a few days before our sonogram, I had another dream of a baby boy who was a little older who I was giving a bath to in our bathroom. He sure was cute! I should have known you are a boy all along.
  

Sonogram #2

At this sonogram which was at 11 weeks and 2 days, I was surprised although should have expected to see something that looked more like a baby. "Smudge" (as our baby was nicknamed by the word used by the sonogram tech at the first sonogram) grew so much from the sonogram taken at 6 weeks 1 day! How exciting to see our baby moving around, flipping on its side, moving its arms around and bouncing up and down a little bit. I was laughing during some of these movements which can be seen in a DVD that we were given to capture about 10 minutes of our baby's movements. The heart rate was 169 bpm. Everything is looking healthy from measurements taken at the back of the neck. We are so glad!
As you can see from the picture, there is a little light spot next to the face which is one of the hands. Perhaps the baby has already found its thumb? Also, in the video we got a good shot of the baby's legs that were straight out and crossed which I found so funny. Glad our baby appears to be relaxing!

I recently had another appointment at 15 weeks where the nurse measured my belly and according to the doppler our baby is moving around a lot and was making it hard to find a heart beat right away. The heart rate once it was found was 159 bpm. We are really curious as to whether this is a boy or girl and have our sonogram to find out on August 6th! I can't wait!! We are trying to think of fun ways to reveal the news to my parents that evening when we meet them for dinner. :)

Sonogram #1

So at the time we found out we were pregnant we were only about 3 and a half weeks pregnant according to my due date which is January 4, 2011! This happens to be my grandma Seattle's birthday so she is pretty excited about that. Here are our first sonogram pics at about 6 weeks 1 day. We were so amazed when we both saw the little tiny heart beating this early. The baby was about 6 mm long at this time. Such a miracle from God!!!

We're Pregnant!!!

I am so bad about keeping up with journaling or in this case blogging but I'm going to try to so I won't forget exciting details of our lives!

On the night of April 24 I decided to take a pregnancy test just to confirm what I already knew must be true, that I could not be pregnant so late this month. I was shocked and amazed when my first test had a pink cross that showed up meaning pregnant! I showed it to Kam right away and had him run to Walgreens to buy a more fancy test that said the word pregnant or not pregnant just to verify along with having him buy me some prenatal vitamins just in case. Sure enough, we waited to see the word pregnant pop up on the test! We were not expecting to try for kids until the following month seeing that I didn't find out until April 5th that I did not get a dietetic internship for this coming year, and at this point I assumed it was too late this month (TMI I know!). When I realized this surprise I just felt God's love in answering my heart's long desiring to have babies. I am so thankful I can feel freedom in His plan!















Of course at the point of finding out God answered my many years long of prayers for babies, we were so thrilled that His plan was for this all to happen the way that it did! Here's the first pics we took of our shocked reactions...














Kam quickly called his mom to tell her the news and we emailed my parents the picture of the pregnancy tests titling the email, "we have some news..." I had my mom on the phone and told her and my dad to check her email so I could hear their reactions. It was so much fun! Here is us the following Sunday morning. Still in a state of amazement and euphoria. :)

Record Breaking Snowfall for DFW

I might as well start our blog (finally) by documenting the record breaking snow fall that happened on February 11th. I went to work at the hospital this day and woke up to a beautiful and surprising sight of a blanket of white snow early that morning. It continued to snow all day and we ended up with over 12.5 inches of snow! It was quite a beautiful sight from patient rooms when the trees were dressed in white.

We may never see quite this much snow again so we tried to soak it up. Thankfully I got off work a little early and Kam and I had some fun playing in the snow along with a few of ours neighbors. What a treat!
